Trevyn Newpher has been named to the newly created position of Steamboat Bike Park Manager for the Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation. The Steamboat Bike Park has gained notoriety over the past summer and continues to evolve offering a variety of downhill trails for all ability levels.
“We are delighted to have someone as talented and accomplished as Trevyn take on a new leadership role within the resort,” said John Kohnke, summer activities director for the Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation. “Trevyn brings strong management and leadership skills along with a unique understanding as a Pro Rider to the Steamboat Bike Park, which will help guide the experience across the park to the next level.”
An industry professional with over a decade of experience, Newpher started his career at Snowshoe in West Virginia where he held several positions within the Snowshoe Bike Park as well as competition services in the winter.  While at Snowshoe, Newpher was tasked with designing and constructing numerous trails, general bike park operations and management as well as establishing programs for mountain bike rental and instruction. He joined Steamboat’s competition services in 2007 and hasn’t missed a winter. During the past summer season, Newpher served as supervisor overseeing and developing all aspects of the Steamboat Bike School during its inaugural season.
In addition to his industry roles, Newpher has 13 years of elite level racing including nine years of professional cycling experience. He brings more than 10 years of mountain bike guiding experience and holds a Gravity Logic IDP Level 2 Instructor Certification and is a IMIC/Mad March Racing Certified Coach.  For the past four years, he has attended G.L. Trail Building and Management Seminars. Newpher is a graduate of Davis & Elkins College with a Bachelors of Arts in Outdoor Recreation and Tourism Management.
“I welcome the opportunities that come with managing bike operations for one of the top ski resorts in North America and one that is quickly being recognized around the globe for its bike park,” said Newpher. “Steamboat has a talented and dedicated staff; and together, we will strive to move the resort to the top level within the industry.”
The Steamboat Bike Park is an extraordinary new bike park in northwest Colorado with 2,000 vertical feet of lift-served gravity fed and downhill flow trails. With a base elevation lower than most parks in the Rocky Mountains, Steamboat has a vibrant array of vegetation with trails winding through large aspen groves and thick undergrowth, resulting in a truly unique experience. The trail crew, in conjunction with industry leading designers-Gravity Logic, utilized the natural topography ensuring a thrilling ride that highlights the best of the mountain’s natural features, rocks, bridges, drops andmanmade jumps, all while providing exciting terrain for all ability levels.

Dog handlers from across the country will gather at the Flying Diamond Ranch in beautiful Steamboat Springs, Colorado June 18-22, 2014 to compete in the second annual National Cattledog Association Finals.  Spectators watch the dogs in action as they herd 800-pound animals through a series of obstacles.  The ranch comes alive with people enjoying crafts booths, food and refreshments.

Over 120 dogs will compete in five divisions:  Open, Nursery, Intermediate, Horseback and Intermediate Horseback.  Dogs qualify for the NCA National Finals by earning points in NCA sanctioned trials throughout the year.  Each dog must gather 6 cattle, 200 yards out and herd them through gates placed out in pasture.   The handlers whistle signals to the dogs as they maneuver the cattle through the course.  The dogs use eye contact with the cattle and body positions to move the herd.  NCA is proud to encourage this humane method of cattle ranching.  Spectators will be amazed at the focus and skill of the dogs.

In the horse division, cowboys will showcase modern day ranching styles.  The dogs bring the herd towards the handler while they give command from horseback.   The combination of cattle, horses and working dogs is a fundamental part of our agricultural heritage and impressive to see in person.   This event offers the family a unique western experience.

NCA’s National Final is brought to you in part by Steamboat in the Summertime. Produced by Misto Productions.

Tickets available at the event:  Adults $10/day or $30/week, Children $5/day or $15/week.

April 5:  BUD LIGHT ROCKS THE BOAT, 3:30pm - Sister Sparrow & the Dirty Birds.

The Steamboat Ski Area has been rockin’ during the whole winter ski and snowboard season as the Bud Light Rocks the Boat Free Music Series returned for the 15th season, offering a great mixture of various musical genres. THIS AFTERNOON, enjoy free music at the base area with Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds, an eight-piece powerhouse that puts a modern spin on classic soul.

The band is led by Arleigh Kincheloe (Sister Sparrow), whose astoundingly powerful voice and sly demeanor make for a spellbinding presence onstage. She is backed by the mighty force of The Dirty Birds, a flock of seven men who masterfully lay down thundering grooves and soaring melodies. While each of the Birds are capable of lighting up the stage with jaw-dropping displays of musicianship, it’s clear they’re focused on delivering the band’s infectious music as a single entity. Simply put, the band’s live show is explosive.

Coming up next in the series: MarchFourth Marching Band followed by G. Love & Special Sauce! Check out the full Bud Light Rocks the Boat schedule here.
