Yampa River Restoration Project Starts Tomorrow!

Dr. Rich Weiss Park River Restoration Project

The City of Steamboat’s Parks, Open Space & Recreation Department will conduct a river restoration project on the Yampa River at Dr. Rich Weiss Park starting this Wednesday, October 9th.  The project along 210 linear feet of the river should take approximately two weeks to complete, and is designed to construct three access points to the river and re-stabilize previous bank work that is failing.  Planned improvements have been identified as a priority within the adopted Yampa River Structural Master Plan, and permitting with the Army Corp of Engineers and City of Steamboat Springs Planning Services has been approved.   The City has contracted with Ecological Resource Consultants and Nordic Excavating to do the project.

Funding for the project was secured through Great Outdoors Colorado.  Dr. Rich Weiss Park is located on the southern edge of downtown Steamboat Springs and is a popular park for locals and visitors. Additionally, river enthusiasts enjoy the waters and the public access for river recreation.
